Our Unit

WE AIM TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE GAIN LIFE SKILLS AND  HAVE THEM BENEFIT THEIR FUTURE.

901 Troop Marine Cadets is a youth organisation based in Winterton-on-Sea and Caister-on-Sea. We parade on Monday and Friday nights every week from 18:30 to 21:30 where the cadets learn key skills and take part in lessons that help them advance through our syllabus of recruit to MC1.

We strive to give young people an adventurous and fun aspect based on the Royal Marines. We do this to improve a number of things including confidence, discipline, teamwork and general life skills that can benefit them later on in life.

Some of the activities the cadets get involved with are:

Command Tasks
Sailing
Radio Communications
Fieldcraft
Map & Compass
Shooting
Continuity Drill
Weapons Drill
First Aid
and much more!

We also have our own band which is our main front face at events. The band is made up of a number of drummers, brass and woodwind who play as a marching contingent or as an orchestra at static events.

We have taken part at a number of parades throughout the years including Remembrance day, D-Day in France, Armed forces day and Desert Rats Parade just to name a few. We have also been guard of honour for the towns’ mayor, Princess Anne and Prince Charles.

There is an annual Passing out Parade that is carried out in the summer to show to the parents and dignitaries what they have achieved. The cadets have a drill display, a field craft display and awards are given out to recognise their efforts throughout the year. In 2014, we had the pleasure of having General Lord Dannatt attending as our VIP.

Our organisation is completely self funded with the help of events and grants to provide us with the equipment to drive the troop forward. We also hold Freedom of the Borough which was bestowed upon us back in 2011.

There is also the greener side of things as well; we get involved in overnight exercises and camps throughout the year which give the cadets the time to put some of their skills into practice. We have an annual summer camp which is held at around August for a week where we get involved in numerous activities like wall climbing, abseiling, canoeing and zip lining.

If you would like to find out more then do not hesitate to come see us on one of our training nights where we can advise you further and answer any questions you may have.
